Each trust has different goals and strategies. You can select a trust that aims for capital growth, income, or both. Some have a specific regional focus, while others take a global approach.

What will it cost me?

  • Annual charge – £40 + VAT
  • Dealing charges per holding for postal instruction – £12 and £8 for online instructions. These charges do not apply to the reinvestment of dividends and/or monthly instalments.
  • Government stamp duty of 0.5% also applies on purchases of UK shares only.

How can I open a BMO General Investment Account?

Investing in a BMO GIA is straightforward. Open an account using either our investors portal or by downloading an application form and sending it into us, choose the investment trust(s) that best suits your investment needs and finally, decide how much to invest.

No maximum limits – there is no annual limit so you can invest as much as you like into a GIA. You can also make regular investment contributions from as little as £50 a month.

Flexible investment options – you can invest in lump sum payments or monthly via a direct debit from as little as £50 a month. You can also top up your investment at any time.

Tailor to your circumstances – the longer you invest for, the more likely that your personal circumstances will change. You may become risk averse for example. And it might be with time that you decide you want a portfolio more focused on income than growth, or the other way around, than the one you originally established.
