LONDON, 9 September 2021 – BMO Global Asset Management (‘BMO GAM’) is delighted that Dennis Owusu-Sem, Oversight Relationship Manager, was last night announced as Diversity Champion of the Year at the FTAdviser Diversity in Finance 2021 Awards (‘DIFA Awards’).
The DIFA awards showcase the best work done across the past 12 months, by individuals and companies, to embed diversity, equality and inclusion into a firm’s culture, to and improve policies, processes and products for customers and colleagues alike.
This year the judges noted that the exceptional quality of entries highlighted the breadth of creativity and determination in UK financial services to improving diversity, equality and inclusion, despite the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dennis is a prominent advocate of racial equality in the workplace. To help further this cause, Dennis founded ‘Success Talks’ to profile some of the leading Black and Ethnic Minority individuals across the world. He also sits on the NatWest Group Advisory board for ethnicity, where he helps develop the strategy for NatWest to achieve their targets in attracting, retaining and promoting individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds.
Dennis comments “I am proud that my efforts to improve racial equality in the workplace continue to be recognised within the investment management industry. I truly believe that a diverse workplace improves productivity and creativity. ‘Success Talks’, along with that of other racial equality organisations, has increased the number of opportunities open to individuals from Black and Ethnic Minority backgrounds. However, there is still more that can be done to improve diversity in many sectors.’
Kristi Mitchem, CEO of BMO GAM, adds “As a diverse global investment business focused on making a positive impact by using our voice to influence companies, governments and regulators to establish appropriate policies on environmental, social and governance issues, we are delighted that Dennis has been recognised for his important work in enhancing racial equality in the workplace. His valuable input has certainly helped increase diversity in our business.”
